A LITTLE HISTORY
The award is named after Violet Richardson, who became president of the very
first Soroptimist club in Alameda County, California, in 1921. Richardson believed in personal responsibility and in the motto, “It's what you do that counts.” She lived her life as an active member in her community, creating opportunities for girls and young women. Soroptimist International established this award to honour the memory of this unique woman and her dedication to volunteer action.

We respectfully acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Tsawwassen and Musqueam First Nations. We honour their deep connection to this land and the waters that sustain our community. We offer our gratitude to their Elders, past and present, and recognize their enduring stewardship.
